my daughter is 4 and we let her pack her own bag, with whichever toys and books she wants, we always take the portable DVD player. she always packs the same things, books colouring stuff, snap cards, little figures, (about 5cm high) and cars. use the paper and colours to draw roads add all the little details on (houses, farms, animals in the fields. then put the paper on the planes pull down trays my daughter plays with these for hours, you just keep changing the pictures. hope this helps.

I recommend a portable DVD player and a child friendly CD or music player. My daughter loves hers because it makes her feel grown up (she's almost four, too). I think Fisher Price makes one. Also, maybe you can take some books to read to him on the flight if he is showing that the only thing that will calm him is your attention. Good luck-I know the prospect of flying with a young child is daunting!

Well you could take some play dough in little containers, it not very heavy and he will enjoy playing with it. also i would suggest taking a toy aeroplane and some people (not too many or they will go everywhere!!) as most four year olds love role play games and will be amused for ages. if you take him to a shop in the airport and let him choose a toy he will be more likely to play with it for a longer period because it is new. Hope this helps!!

We flew to Oz from the Uk and the life line that we found was a sticker book

My daughter played for hours with sticker books and just sheets of stickers, we paid the penalty of having them all in our hair when we arrived but it was well worth it lol x

Stories on tapes/cds are great, although he may be a little young for that I suppose but get a kids walkman type thing if you can - my cousin is amused for hours at a time with that and also her portable dvd player.

If your child has any favorite books, you could get them on tape and get your child a tape player, some ear phones and the books and tapes, so that he can follow along in the book. Boys like electronic stuff so he may keep himself busy if you got him a portable DVD player and some headphones, along with his favorite movies. You could also get him hooked on phonics DVD's to play on his portable DVD player. Then he could start to practice his letter sounds and start to read. The library has wonderful books on tapes with the books to go with them and they also let you check out movies too. Your child may just love to go to the library and choose his own material. This will also encourage reading.
