Unfortunately, I found out when i was 5 because i walked in on my mum and my stepdad at it. Afterwards i asked my mum what they were doing and she was rubbish at explaining, so my stepdad took me into my bedroom for literally about 6 hours and told me firstly that it was something people do for fun and also to procreate, the mechanics of it, even different positions and words, and let me ask loads of questions. I think it was best to learn everything at the same time like that.

we started to talk about sex and the body when my son was 4. We explained the parts of his body to him and he asked how babies get here and we explained that too.
By age 10 at the latest you need to have a sex talk because some girls will start having their periods at 10 or 11 so you want her to be prepared. You need to explain it to boys too so they understand what's happening to girls.
Sex is not a taboo topic in our house and we use proper names for things and proper names for body parts as well.

Soon as they start asking. My girls were told at 7 because they asked me. Tell them the truth without alot of detail. They need to hear this at homw not from a friend or a book.

That's entirely up to the parents. They'll handle those issues the way they feel is appropriate for their family. Every family is different so it's not a question one person can answer.
Everyone can give you their own experiences but that doesn't make their opinions the "right" one. :o)

if you have a totally open relationship with your child, sex will just be another topic and not a taboo.
it's along the same lines as alcoholic beverages in that if there is no prohibition, it is just another element in your diet. those people who were raised using alcohol properly, in moderation, never even think of abusing it.
it follows that if your child is informed about sex and it is learned in the right context, it should never be construed as a problem.

i think the right age is when they start asking about it. there is really no set age because all children mature at different times.
