I don't think it is a problem of religion, but a problem of men attitudes towards what is different, what is not known. Men will kill anyway even if you take all religions away (proof are some country under totalitarian regimes where they don't practice any religion).

Religion made people to identify like members of some group. That is very good because that helps in case of need.
Christians helped each other when someone died, someone went to prison or someone was sick. People was so identified with their religion that they even died for it. Jews can tell a lot about that.
Many agnostics found in a temple comfort when they lost hope.
The problem comes when religion and politics get together, so politicians wants to abuse people's beliefs to get more power or fight against their "enemies".
In our times is obvious, because of a far more informed world, that we have conflicts between groups of fanatics that claim their fight is a religious one... but that is not true. Don't let them trick you.
Muslims are as good and kind persons as Jews, Christians. Each one with different ways to find happiness and security.

I used to think it was fifty fifty but anymore I think better to revise to a secular morality as the religion has gone down the drain in far to many ways and just keeps getting worse . It's too corrupt too antiquated and has a base of too many lies.the more branches the more divided where a single govt system of ethical values could be up graded to deal with today's societal needs.
