My nephew (8 YEARS) has Red bumps below his waist and one on his nose. He's in the hospital right now, he's been there for a couple of hours. They haven't taken blood out yet, so I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of this, or what could it be? He has pain in his legs and it hurts him to walk, the odd thing is that he only has the pain below his waist and all the bumps (except for the one on the nose) are on his legs. Could this be an allergy? Or Chicken Pox? I've never heard of Chicken Pox only in one part of the body, or pain on the legs.

P.S. I know the doctor will find out what it really is, but if anyone has ever heard of symptoms like these, I would appreciate it much if you could tell me what it could be. That way I won't be so worried, and I can calm my sister down.

If it looks similar to Chicken Pox but is concentrated to a particular area, it might be Herpes Zoster. In lay man's terms, Shingles. It hurts like ants biting the area because it attacks the nerves and is along a nerve path. This doesn't usually affect young individuals but it does occur just the same.

If your newphew hasn't had the chicken pox, it can't be shingles. Also, it's EXTREMELY rare for a young child to get shingles (I had shingles when I was 18-19 years old).

To me it sounds like some sort of allergy.

This could be shingles but usually they don't hospitalize you with this condition, but it sure sounds like Shingles to me, my Mother had Shingles once and they were really painful, They usually give you pain medication and you treat yourself at home, I have never heard of this being on a child so young before either.
