mac's are definitely better for the task, they have colour handling capabilities far beyond pc and the whole drag and drop is so much easier than working with the pc interface. if you've been used to pc it may be daunting for you to pick up at first but mac's were initially designed for children to use so it wont take long to pick up. they are expensive so you can use a pc if you dont have a lot of money but plan to invest in a mac in the future.
there is a lot of specialist software out there that is really easy to use and get to grips with. Adobe InDesign is one of the leaders at the moment, or QuarkXpress, both are available for 30 day trial for you to download and practise with. (please stay away from publisher!) and both are recognised by professional printers. the capabilities of the software is endless but you only need the basics to get started the rest can come with experimenting.
i have a lot of experience in this area, i am a designer and have produced numerous amounts of magazines etc.

Microsoft Publisher, is a marvellous piece of software, which, - if I read this right, - will allow you to arrange everything, on the page, in COLUMNS, - and allow the insertion, of PICTURES, if you wish! I don't know, for sure, but there MAY be a DOWNLOAD link, on the Microsoft website. The ADDRESS, that I use, (when I NEED to), - is www.microsoft.com, - SIMPLE. If you have any trouble, please, don't HESITATE to make contact, again, - I will GLADLY assist you, if I can! As for your question, regarding Apple-Mac, my friend? I use a P.C., - so, I cannot GIVE an answer, - so, please, accept my apologies, on THAT point!
