Beer has a lot of calories so if you drink several every night it is going to start to show. Also beer contains a lot of carbs, carbs are energy and since you usually drink at night that energy just gets stored.

i had a tummy tuck 3 years ago and the doc told me i should avoid fatty foods and foods that can form gas. When i asked the relation he said that when you eat (or drink) foods or beverages that give gas, your intestines stretch, pushing your muscles out. This pushing slowly, but surely gives the intestines more room every time, making the abdominal muscles weaker and flabbier, thus giving room for the beer belly.
