Because you jump on them for every little mistake that they do - which is no way to live|
We are human, hence make mistakes all the time, so if we are always punished for them, that makes life unlivable|
To get along, it is essential to let the little things go - in fact, letting the little things go is the secret of a peaceful and happy society - and only taking people to task when it is something relatively serious, and your intervention will help
When we consider intervening, we always have to ask the question: "will this help the situation or hurt it" rather than simply blowing off out of selfish ego and not caring about or considering the consequences|

It is fear of the person they are around, for their jobs, their peace at home, whatever; but it indicates that they do not want so much as to crack an eggshell in the presence of this person for fear from retribution of one sort or another.
Believe me, it is not a compliment directed at the one fears but shows they are difficult people and may come irate at any provocation.

that you make them uncomfortable, they are afraid what your reaction will be to anything they say or do so they go around silently in fear because even the sound of a eggshell will trigger your negative attitude ,anger, . they do it so they will not see your attitude and they are tired of dealing with it or they are scared of losing their position especailly if you are in charge ..

I think it means that people are very cautious when it comes to dealing with you. It could be for various reasons according to the context, tone, situation in which the sentence was said and of course according to the character of the person to whom the sentence was said.

It means they are being careful in what they say around you, to either not upset you or to not make you angry.
People do it either to not stress out another or to dodge responsiblity.
example: grandpa in the hospital and dr's told us he didn't have a chance due to cancer. could be 2 days, could be 6 months (this was while ago). instead of being up front and telling him this information, my dad and aunts (his kids) just told him all was fine, that he would be home soon and everything would be back to normal.
that white lie....is walking on egg shells.

It means they are careful with what they say to you or within earshot of you because you are sensitive, vulnerable or depressed. They don't want to annoy, irritate or cause you sadness depending on the state of mind you are in.....maybe, irritable, sad, depressed, very sensitive or quick tempered.

It simply means that they are careful how they act/talk/etc around you, they would do it as a result of something that you did normally.
