In addition, why is it that some issues are given such vast importance (homosexuality) and others are looked over like it's no big deal (premarital sex) if they are both spoken against in the bible? How about eating shell fish and cutting your hair and having sex with a menstruating female? Where are the laws against these things?

r_u_reall... that may be so, but you can't tell me that a person who engages in premarital sex or cuts their hair, etc will be treated in the same fashion as a person who is gay. The hate and discrimination and just plain mean behavior will not be directed at these other transgressors like it will towards a homosexual person.

My question is written in a format to show the discrepancies in what some people of a religious nature "pick and chose" to follow. The whole fight against gay marriage is being pushed forward and the majority of its momentum comes from people on the religious right and their beliefs. Any person who tries to deny this is either not entirely truthful, or just very naive.

One of the main arguments against homosexuality comes from the book of Leviticus. How can a person say that certain things can/should be ignored because they come from the book fo Leviticus, but we should in fact listen to the statements about homosexuality that come from the same book? That is an incredible double standard.

Ok lets take this one at a time. I do agrea the "Christian Right" is overly focused on Homosexuality and Gay Marriage. They should also be focused on the insane divorce rates and permarital sex. The problem is similar to the problem with Alochol. Our soceity would be a better soceity if no one drank Alochol, less deaths and other stupid things would happen. Unfortunately it was leagle for a long time so everyone got use to it and when it was made ileagle it made a large portion of the population outlaws which just doesn't work.

Same with permarital sex, if I could go back to 1900 I'd try to make it illegal in this country and it might stick and dramtically improve the health of our society in the long run. However now it's so common place making it illegal wouldn't stop people from doing it, it would just make them outlaws.

However Gay marriage isn't leagle in most places yet, so it's kind of like the story of pandoras box, when the box was oppened up it let all this bad stuff in the world it doesn't mean there was no point in closing it so hopelesness wouldn't get loose. So with Gay marriage christians have faild to protect our soceity from many other moral dangers but there's still a chance to stop this.


As far as the other things like Shell fish and cutting your hair, those are mostly in Leviticus which is a book of laws set by God for the jews they don't apply to use "saved" gentiles. God made them for jews for two reasons 1. to make the jews different 2. unlike you and I who already have a govrnment and laws they did not so the basic christian laws we have been given were not enough to run a society of former slaves.

I don't think that there should be gay marriage, as marriage is something that happens between a man and a woman. However, I have gay friends, and I think it is wrong to deny them the right to enter into a legal union with the person they love and enjoy all the legal and economic rights as a hetrosexual couple in the same situation.

I agree with you firmly. My lesbian friends who've been together for more years then most straight couples, can't understand why one or the others medical insurance, retirement benefits, etc.. can't be honored. I believe legislation is getting so much pressure things will begin to change.
