Go ahead and join. Let a friend or relative hold onto the dog. Tell your father to grow up, why would you wanna kill a dog. I know how you feel though. My grandmother gave away my pitbull when I went to basic training, but you just move on and eventually get another dog.

I think your dad is using this as a twisted way to try and prevent you. Ask yourself if you can really see your father killing your pet if you leave. If you can find a friend who can take care of it or give it to a little kid for his pet. The military is a longterm commitment. You have to be willing to give 4 years of choices away. You will live where they want you to live and it probably wont be anywhere near home. Depending on the jobs you qualify for you may be in or near combat. I have enlisted in the marines and i am leaving at the end of april. You have to be so motivated to serve and really put your entire life on hold outside of the military.

If you join the army you will be leaving your dog , if you are afraid about what will happen to it you should make provision for it before you leave .
Have you thought about what affect your decision will have on the dog .
would you leave a child with the same lack of care .
Anyway ..........there are people who will take an unwanted pet like the RSPCA or other shelters

Either give the dog to someone who you know will take care of it or do not join the military.
Joining the military is a big commitment, and if you're worried about your dog during training, it can adversely affect your morale. Therefore, if you do not fix this situation to one you can agree with before you leave for the military, you may not perform at your prime.
Also, most single persons in the military are unable to ship pets to their next duty station, since you will be living in a barracks or a ship more than likely.

Although if you are truly ready to join the army, you wouldn't be asking questions about it here

I guarantee that if you join the military....you are just a notch above selling your soul to Satan! Stay away; are you truelly THIS blind to current events? Do u know how many soldiers have gone AWOL bc they are the top authority IN KNOWING THE TROOPS are not there to rebuild IRAQ- NOT set things str8/ They are LIED TO by recruiters, sucked into the hell that is that region of this sh itty globe and live daily just to survive. KNOW the FACTS before you are shipped off and not allowed to return home for many years.
I speak with harshness bc it upsets me that you are this NAIVE. I speak this for YOUR benefit, and for those who love you.
Just wait it out; our corrupt gov. is working on re*instating that piss a^ss draft-women included!

Find a good home for your dog. Is the a Pachyderm Club around your area? Call them and ask. They are supportive of the military and have many dog lovers as members.
Good luck!! Thanks for thinking of joining!!!
