NO, you just need to be a legal resident and meet the normal qualifications. I served with many Marines who were not citizens but chose to serve their 'adopted' country.

No, you do not have to be a US Citizen to join the US Armed Forces. However, if you want to join, you must ensure you have a Green Card first before you join, otherwise, you can't. You have to be authorized to legally work in the US, basically.
Also, if you're not a US Citizen, you will be ineligible for any job that requires a security clearance, such as communications, intelligence, even Yeoman.
However, once you're accepted, and serve at least one tour in a combat zone, you're eligible for full citizenship at a faster pace, within two years.
On a side note, the US Navy used to recruit Filipinos directly out of the Philippines. They were stuck in jobs such as cook or supply though, since they were ineligible for security clearances.

Go with Rocky's answer. Hit nail on the head. It is an easier process for a British citizen than some other nationalities. Served with a couple of Aussies when I was in the Navy.

I'm Not sure of the process but you may join the US army without being a citizen. Service in the armed forces can lead to US citizenship. Check with a Recruiter in the area.

You do not need to be a citizen. In fact, joining the military is the easiest path to U.S. citizenship.
If memory serves, as long as you are not a felon in your home country and otherwise can meet the qualifications, the Army will accept you for a period of 5-7 years. After this period of honorable service, you will be granted citizenship.
Contact your local U.S. Embasy or consulate for information.

You don't have to be a citizen, but you do have to have a Green Card as a resident alien. However, before you pursue that course, please know, you may be risking your British/Irish citizenship. Many nations have laws which stipulate that joing the military of another nation (even an allied nation such as the US) is tantamount to a rejection of birth citizenship. In other words, you could have your citizenship taken away.

I don't think it's a requirement to be a US citizen. I remember seeing a US soldier on television obtain his citizenship AFTER he joined the US Army.
Hope this helps you.
