While dying your hair will not cause brain damage or cancer as many studies have shown there are other effects to consider. Allergic reactions are very common among people who dye their hair regularly. Many people can dye their hair at first without any problems, but may develop an allergy to the dye after dyeing their hair regularly. The substance that causes this allergy is para-phenylenediamine. It is in most permanent hair dyes and regular contact with it causes the allergy.
I know this because it happened to me. I used to dye my hair about every two weeks and one day I dyed my hair black and my head swelled up and I got a rash all over my scalp, ears and neck. I had to go to the emergency room and was put on steroids to stop the reaction but it lasted about a week and a half.
My advice would be to make sure you always do an allergy test no matter how often you dye your hair. The best way to do it is to put a small amount of the mixed dye on a band-aid and put it on the inside of your elbow for about and hour.

You need to make sure that you are in a well ventilated area and not in a closet huffing the fumes. Your brain won't absorb anything on the top of your head (unless we are talking about blows to the face) Believe it or not the chemicals in most hair dyes are very safe for you and are pretty much "idiot proof" . Don't worry about it and have fun!

Well, hopefully it cannot soak through your skull.

No, those chemicals are non-toxic, or they wouldn't be approved by the FDA and put on the market. Dye away, you're ok.
