I am amazed at my experience on this site tonight.
There is so much animosity created because if religion. Sorry, it's mostly americans who are to blame, on this site anyway.

Basically, if you are a christian, or whatever, don't you realise the irony in hating other religions?! Christianity teaches love and forgiveness etc etc. I just cannot believe the cruelty i have seen some christians on this site use towards athiests, gay people, catholics, muslims, etc etc.

YOU ARE CHRISTIANS! You are not meant to hate! Yet you allow your religion create such disharmony, don't you see how wrong that is?!

You are correct, sir, and we'll see how many christians either do the whole "I'm sorry, forgive me.....now go about what I was doing" approach (i.e. christianity) or how many point fingers and say "Not me!" denying the truth. It's sad to say it, but religion, and particularly christianity, for some reason, never causes anything BUT strife....religion has been the cause of every war in human history!!! People become so convinced that they are right without any proof what-so-ever that they start trying to cram their "truth" down other's throats, eventually deciding that they are a mother administering medicine to a rebellious kid....the problem is, that they are so aggressive, the child usually aspirates...Any un-provable position, when argued, results in violence, because there is no way to resolve the conflict without the idea of "if I'm stronger, I'm right" being put into play. Even the bible can't be concise on the matter....look how many quotes there are about jesus saying he came to earth to cause strife, then said "love one another." "Do as I say, not as I do" syndrome, Hypocrit, or just someone not proof-reading their fairy-tale very well?

I know, it's really sad and disappointing. I agree with everything you say here except for the facts that it's mostly Americans. There are some incredibly hardcore religious people throughout the world. Here in America we will put people down and treat them poorly and discriminate against them based on religious beliefs, that I completely acknowledge. However, it is pretty rare and unheard of for a citizen to blow up a bus or set off a road side bomb to further our religious beliefs. We could be much worse. We are a close minded people in a lot of ways though. It's especially sad when you think of the reasons why American even really came into existence. I guess we forgot.

You are one smart guy! Irish ? Well, all my Irish friends have the same strong beliefs. I am a devote Catholic, except for confession & abortion of rape victims. I have friends from all walks of life from hookers to nuns to muslims. It is so very painful to be in a room & hear prejudice talk about the people I love most. My open mind has gotten me into some uncomfortable situtations, but I can not judge anyone. That's God's job. Let me apologize for Americans, you say are to blame most. Your generaliztion is, can I say, is prejudice ??!!? This is family oriented night, Saturday Americans rent a video, gather the family around the TV & chill, other than being on Yahoo!Answers so you're not getting an accurate average of answers! Point given ! politely, I hope! Best of luck

All absolutist thinking, whether Nazi, Soviet, or other is predicated on certainty. Political ideologies are susceptible to dogmatic "We're right because we're right" thinking, but religion is predicated on it.

Yours and all other religions have a "god" or "gods" that are allegedly "perfect" and any disagreement with its doctrines is seen as "heresy" and "blasphemy". It is far easier for religion to justify hate and violence than any other ideology, especially with the notion of "forgiveness". Forgiveness and "indulgences" are used as rationalizations for behaviours that would never be considered without it; "I'm doing this in the name of god, so murder is okay!"

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."
- Blaise Pascal in "Pensees", the same book that contains his "wager"

Even if religion is not the source of violence and hate, it most certainly enables it by claiming to be "doing god's will". The christian terrorist Eric Rudolph thought it was alright to kill people because "they perform abortions", or "they're homosexuals"; he expected to be "forgiven" and that he wouldn't have to face criminal charges. I'd like to know his rationale for the olympic park bombing, however.

What galls me the most about the religious, and what you seem NOT to be doing, is disassociating their own when they don't like what's being done. If I as an atheist were to say, "Joseph Stalin wasn't a true atheist!" people would laugh their heads off, yet those very same people laughably claim that "Adolf Hitler wasn't a true christian!"

People try to pick and choose who belongs to their club, but it doesn't work that way. A christian is someone who believes there was a "jesus" and claims to follow "him". Martin Luther King Jr. and the Ku Klux Klan are both christians, whether people like it or not.

I fail to see how Americans are the cause for animosity created because of religion. Many religions around the world (not only Christian religions) have animosity towards people with different views. I personally have never understood this.

I am a Christian and I don't hate other religions. I just believe what the Holy Bible says: There's one way to God and that is through Jesus Christ, His Son. "I am the way, the truth and the life" the Bible says. We don't hate gays, the Bible says those who practice homosexuality will end up in hell. I didn't make the rules... As for Rev. Fred Phelps who shows up at gay funerals, I don't agree with him. I am sure alot of Christians would feel the same way. Don't lump us with him....

I'm a Christian and agree with u to an extent. Some Christians are still so hung up on not accepting homosexuals and other religions but some are very accepting. I think some just interpret principles and laws layed down thousands of years ago way to literally. but in saying that i think every religion has its prejudices.

Judges 2:2. And other verses.

We HATE the false religions, because it's FALSE, and leads people straight to hell. We HATE the false religions, because SATAN, who is the father of lies, runs them, and uses them to keep people away from the truth!

We do NOT hate their followers, however. God loves everyone, but God doesn't like their sin.

Of course, it WILL cause divisions. Do you think God, or His followers, would just sit back and allow Satan to control others without a fight?! Religion, causes divisions.

“So there was a DIVISION among the people BECAUSE OF HIM” John 7:43

Jesus Christ said plainly in Luke 12:51 — He came to cause DIVISIONS:

"Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather DIVISION:" Luke 12:51

Welcome to reality. People who show hate are not Christians, they only call themselves that.

Just a food for thought for you: If anyone follows a dogma, like a religious one of whatever denomination, is that not a sign that they cannot stand on their own feet and think for themselves?

Read "Rational Spirituality" available on the Dhaxem website. That is a belief which would not allow people who understand and follow it, to hate. This concept can be understood only by intelligent people. Ignorance and hate are the same thing. People who show hate are not as bad, as that they are ignorant and immature. Do not lose sleep over them, work on your own advancement.

We all progress at our own pace, leave the bigger picture to God, and worry only over your own conscience. Sleep well.

Shutup and eat your potatoes. "mostly americans who are to blame"??? You are judgemental in your assessment. Your bias is a form of hate. I am an atheist and I am proud to stand alone. Not with any other atheist but by myself. If humanity is the best god can do then he has failed. There is no god and our uncivilized world is proof of it. No god could create an imperfect world if he was perfect. Your biblical scriptures show that god is a homicidal maniac. Atheists didn't write your bible.
