I moved to Oregon (lincoln city) a year &1/2 ago and most towns I spend time in seem to be struggling. Everyone who lives in lincoln city year round is really poor and not very positive minded. Dont know if portland would be a happier place or not because even though i got over the weather here, maybe it gives people a negative vibe. From what i can tell i think i would like portland but at the moment, im tramatized with oregon in general.

Most of the coastal communities seem to be that way. Possible exception the Coos Bay area ... note I said "possible" ....

The communities along the I-5 corridor tend to be a bit more afluent, esp the cities/metro areas. Unless you really want to be in a major metro area, I would suggest trying Eugene or Medford.

Try Bend. It's on what we here call "the dry side of the mountains" so has a better climate in terms of temperature/rainfall. Bend is also the fastest growing city in the state, especially high tech. The attitude there is generally up beat, but the traffic is murder.

I think you can make it as good or as bad as you want it to be. If you do not want to live in a state with 4 real seasons than you should probally move to S. Calif. or somewhere like that.

No way to answer that without knowing what, exactly, you find about the other parts of Oregon to be 'depressing.'
