Most countries have a 'standard' language' & in the US it would be the 'standard' variant spoken by news presenters, etc., which appears to be closer to the north-eastern states.

For most individuals it is a matter of choice, and I do prefer a Boston accent myself.... sounds th most 'educated & intelligent' of the United States accents, though nowhere near as good as Oxford/BBC English of England. :-)

In what state? The state of sobriety.

As an English English speaker, I find the American English of the North-Western and North Eastern states most easy to follow. But good grammatical English is on the retreat in most regions with the notable exception of Chinese and Indian students acquiring it for business purposes. These often speak better English than most English folk.

The only place that pure, unadulterated English is spoken is in Europe/England.

If you want to know a good place for English in the USA though, a place without accents I presume, I would suggest nothern Florida, and California.

english is spoken better in the north-western states, because we don't have an accent, as opposed to other parts of the US.

but of course, you can always tell we're from the north-west because of the absence of an accent.

I would say: WA, OR, maybe Idaho

In the Washington/Oregon/Idaho region (Pacific Northwest). Californians have surfer slang, the South has a twangy accent, the East speaks like thugs and the midwest people talk like farmers.

Sorry, it's the truth.
