An umbrella prayer is a concept that man has thought up. It is thought to cover all possible events and their outcome, to get the desired answer that nothing will go wrong for the person praying. It really is bad theology, and doesn't work very well, if at all. No, there is nothing in the Bible about it. Jesus said that we are to be specific in what we pray for, believing, and not doubting. If you doubt, you have wasted your time.

It is the prayer that is said whenever a person is faced with any problem that he or she cant handle. Sort of like using an umbrella when it rains or as a shade from the fierce sun, this person prays only when troubled by a difficult situation and then doesn't pray till the next similar situation comes by.
