Liberto is an Italian word derivated from the Latin 'Libertus'.
This name was given by the Romans to the slaves that for some reason had become 'free' but that had still a few obligations to their previous 'owner' (and were still living in his house).

mm don't know if italian or spanish, but here in italy, it means something like whom that is free or whom that will free someone
it could be originated form libertas libertatis, latin for freedom
:)
it can also mean (and this is the best choise i think) a slave who has obtained his freedom from his master
we have a politician named di liberto
:)
