We what to know about the night life, best restaurants, shops, attractions, celebrity sightings.....all of that good stuff. If you have any suggestions on hotels too.....that would be nice. Also if you know of any good vacation planning websites that would be very helpful as well. Just so you know, we will be there for one solid week only, we want to do as much as humanly possible. All helpful and thoughtful responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Evidently I need to refocus my question. I have yet to choose a hotel, so I would like to start there, not looking to pay over $1200 plz, in a really nice area. I know L.A. is huge, I have no interest in visiting the projects I can do that here. I will be visiting from Alabama, and no I am not country. LOL. At any rate, we what to know about the night life, best restaurants

A few suggestions:
Sunset strip, good food lots of people and night life, the main place for catching live music.
Melrose, fun shopping.
Zuma and/or Westward Beach along with Point Dume in Malibu, they're all next to each other on the coast and nicer than Venice Beach. Also there's a Chinese restaurant that's kick *** in Point Dume, simply called Point Dume Chinese, best Kung Pao.
Venice, cool to check out, bring money for souvenirs, I don't recommend getting a tattoo from most shops there though, or Hollywood for that matter, most of the shops around those places are low caliber.
I recommend going to a hookah bar in the Valley there's a bunch off of Ventura Blvd. like in Encino or some town near there. If you're not familiar, it's a finer quality tobacco that you smoke through a big water pipe, like the caterpillar in Alice in Wonder Land.
Third St Promenade in Santa Monica is cool for tourists I guess. One of the best Thai food places I've ever been to is on Santa Monica Blvd. and Cloverfield. It's called Pot and Pan, silly name, but killer food.

Good luck, hope you get some other good suggestions and have a great trip out here.

Well.... Theres a lot to do here but it's very quick.... You arent goingto spend a day at hollywood and highland (great shopping) or on a tour of the stars home. Abook on Los Angeles would be helpful for I haven't spent a night in every single hotel here.

Tips:
-Stay out of downtown after 7 P.M
-Beverly Hills is very overrated for star viewing potential
-Malibu's good if you want to have even a small chance of seeing a celebrity
-Hollywood's overrated

hope it helps

First, don't buy into the first responders nonsense. I walk everywhere at all hours-it all depends on what neighborhood you are in. Los Angeles is more like a huge area full of lots of very different neighborhoods rather then one city. It is very diverse, so it is hard to answer your question without knowing more about you and what you are looking for. Also, where are you visiting from? Staying here is expensive, unless you stay at a hostel.

Sorry, but the best advice would be try to not talk to strangers and when you get back take a long shower to wash the filth off of you. Maybe you can feed the thousands of homeless living under bridges that you will see or tell the aliens that live there in fantasy land that life is really not a fairytale. God Bless, have fun, but know this is not really a good place in any sense.
