Unfortunately in California, to be salvage titled, a car has to be totaled, meaning it costs more to fix it than it will be worth. In other states, a serious accident will get a salvage title but in CA, even late model cars with serious damage do not get salvage titles. This law allows many crappy former wrecks to be sold to unwary purchasers. I don't think you would want to own one.
