How can he see the programs without an antenna.He sold his old T.V.and the antenna.
He is not well off.Can anybody view a T.V without an antenna.? Is it a must?He cannot afford a cable connection.!

You know how bread comes with that wire Twist tie?
He can strip off a piece of that plastic and insert it into the hole of the antenna.....It might improve the picture.

Since MOST antenna connectors are shielded, you will not get any signal at all until you install an antenna on it.....ANY piece of wire that you can insert into the center pin will get MORE signal into the tuner.

But it's best if he purchases a new antenna......

Only answer that I can think of is for him to get a VCR and watch recorded TV on tape , somebody should be able to give him one. Cheers Pete
