I think you're confused. Linux runs faster than Windows, and has fewer hardware requirements. It can run on more machines than Windows. The reason Windows costs more is because it's a commercial operating system. The people who write it work there all day and get paid to do so. Linux is free because it is written by volunteers in their spare time.

Mac OS is faster than Windows, mostly because it is designed only to run on Mac hardware. That gives them complete control of both the hardware and software, which makes everything integrate together well. This is why Macs have such a good reputation for working well and not having problems - by controlling the hardware, there are no unanticipated glitches with drivers or odd hardware combinations. Because Mac OS runs only on Mac hardware, Macs cost more. If you look at technical specs you'll find that in general a Mac costs 50% more than a PC with comparable hardware. On the other hand, many people believe the Mac OS is superior and provides a better user experience and is therefore worth the money. Others are willing to put up with more problems and get Windows based PCs to save the money.

Linux is not for people who can't afford other operating systems. My husband and I have six computers - one Mac, two Linux, the rest Windows. Linux is excellent as a server as well as a programming platform. Plus it's lots of fun to play with if you're interested in different operating systems. It's incredibly powerful and easily customizable.

What you buy is all up to what you want out of a computer. If you want a computer that will just work without any major problems and you don't want to have to worry about viruses, or if you want to do graphics or video work and money isn't an issue, buy a Mac. If you prefer to save some money and are willing to put up with a slower OS that's more of a hassle, or if you're into gaming, buy a Windows PC. If you want to have fun mucking about in the guts of an operating system, or if you're into progranming, buy a PC and install Linux.

Wow! Microsoft has done a great job brainwashing everyone about Linux! LOL Linux is the most stable (never crashes) and can do more than anything out there which is why huge super computers are run using it. Windows is expensive because Gates is greedy. Linix was always intended to be free so it's accessible to everyone.

No, mac isn't worse or less than windows unless you listen to Microsoft.
