I have been an insomniac since I was born...I have never slept 8 hours in my life, even when I was a kid...

Maybe talk to your doctor, he could prescribe Ambien for you, that is a really good sleeping pill. However, its very addictive, so if you do this, please be careful.

Or maybe go to a sleepologist, and have a sleep study done. There could be alot of things wrong, this will help figure out the problem...

If you dont want to go the medical route, maybe drink some tea to calm you down, and then when you go to sleep, just count how many times you breathe in and out. Breathe very deeply, hold it in for 4 seconds, breathe out for 6 seconds. count how many times you do this, and it should help. Thats what I do...Good luck, I hope I helped some...

Going to bed early and relaxation is good but if you're lying in bed for two hours or more get out of bed and do something like writing down your thoughts.

If nothing else works try Benadryl or the store brand. If that doesn't work go see a doctor, which you probably should do for Benadryl just in case, the doctor should be able to prescribe medicine that helps you sleep without being addicted, especially if you go to a psychiatrist , who probably is the best person to help with insomnia.

Reserve a weekend in which you have no commitments. If you can't go to sleep, get up and catch up on work, reading, watching TV. Don't hit the bed unless you're sleepy. If you're awake all night, that's fine. But stay awake all of the next day. Make it a habit that you don't hit the bed unless (1) you're sleepy, and (2) it's very dark.

Tell other household members what you're doing and that you need their cooperation.

I suggest you stop consuming caffine after 2 pm. And exercise during the day and a cold shower right before going to sleep will give you a good night sleep. Also, make sure the room temperature is kind of chilli because that helps people fall asleep faster.

You should try not to do anything that is mentally stimulating like watching TV or doing math.

Try this meditation exercise: breathe in and out and focus on your breathing. Think of nothing else except your breath. Do this half an hour before sleeping and in a quiet corner of your bedroom.

Space yourself. Try not to sleep too early either. Plan for about 7-8 hours of sleep.

There is a book called "Natural Cures They Don't Want you to Know About" or "Natural Cures Revealed" by Kevin Trudeau you can get at any local bookstore or even at places like Wal-Mart. The book has sold 7 million copies so it is considered a best-seller. It has an all-natural herbal remedy to get you to sleep. I also saw an herb in the store for sale I bought, forget the name of it, you were supposed to take one per night for like 30 nights before they kick in and they smelled god awful so I just threw them out.

Hey--unfortunatly, i experience the same thing, & my wake up time for school is 6:30, too! here are some tips that help me:
1. go to bed around the same time every night, even on weekends, so that your body gets into the "routine" (obviously, im breakin that rule right now)
2. dont eat too late--try not to eat after 7
3. dont exercise or do anything too strenuous before about 2 hours before bed
4. snacks that will help you sleep (safe to eat just before bed, too!)--bananas, chamomile tea with honey, handful of almonds, piece of whole-wheat bread with turkey
5. take a warm, relaxing bath before bed, then wear really soft & comfy pjs
6. make sure your bed is super comfortable--buy new pillows & sheets if you have to! & make sure your sheets are clean and smell good...make your bed a place where you really enjoy being!
7. i always take a nap for about 30-45 minutes after school--- but dont do this if you find naps make it harder to fall alseep at night
8. dont have caffine!
9. start keeping a journal---nothing too complicated, but a bit before you go to bed write down any thought that might be bothering you so you dont have to worry & think about them all night!
10. if nothing seems to work, i like to try tylenol pm about 1 or 2 hours before i go to bed.

if absolutely nothing works, ask your parents to take you to the doctor---they see this problem all the time, 7 it's nothing to be embarassed about!

I've experienced insomnia in a severe way since I was a small child I've tried everything under the sun to sleep including ALL OTC drugs and doctors prescribed medication. The ONLY one that worked for me was HALCION .05. I had been taking them for past 20 years and just stopped one day. It's been 5 years and I haven't slept since. I'm heading back to the doctor to get back on them. Insomnia can be a killer. It's time for me to get a good nights sleep once again. You need to seek professional help. They will send you to a "sleep center" for testing and take it from there. Don't wait. You are wasting valuable sleep time. Good Luck.
