About a week ago I did situps, trained triceps & chest and the pain still isn't gone. I think my enthusiasm to workout got the best of me and I overtrained. But, what do I need to do to, atleast, reduce the soreness so I can train again?

You should NEVER stretch before a work out you could tear a muscle doing that, always stretch afterwards. Eat banana's get plenty of pottasium and try to get some good protein. they both help muscles to heal. dont strectch it because you are only retearing the muscle. Time is your friend now but don't baby it. the more you move the faster it will heal!!

Hot showers before exercising along with gentle stretching. All of the above. I knew a mid -40's fellow that did that. He never got over the sore muscles, it turned into an allergic reaction to his muscles, an auto-immune reaction. If it goes on for more than a few days or week, and taking anti-inflammatories like motrin, etc. doesn't help then a visit to a doctor may be wise. Corticosteroids are used some times to block the bodies reaction. If enough muscle cells breakdown, muscle protein(myoglobin) can be released. If enough is released it can clog the kidneys up and give you renal failure. Drink a little extra water. Don't exercise again until all the soreness is gone. When you start again, moderation is the key.

Yiorgos ... Whenever I've exercised vigorously, taking two or three Ibuprofen tablets after the workout has helped to prevent the onset of pain and tightness later. This could have been my imagination, but it seemed to work for me.

Let yourself heal up for a couple days, you did some major ripping of the muscle. when you go back at again don't be so "excessive" start with light weights and work your way up.

Work out gradually and build up over time. If you try to do too much too soon...well, you already know what happens.
