No., the diencephalon is part of the midbrain, not the brain stem. The brainstem, or rhombencephalon, is made up of the myelencephalon or medulla, and the metencephalon which includes the pons and the cerebellum.

The pons, medulla oblongata, and midbrain are parts of the brainstem. Diencephalon is not a part.

BRAINSTEM = PONS + MEDULLA OBLONGATA + MESENCEPHALON (or midbrain).
The diencephalon is another region, including thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus, prethalamus or subthalamus and pretectum.
