It was the name of a dog in Taiwan. They told me it meant that he was fat or chubby, but maybe I spelled got it wrong.

It should be "Xiao Pang" which means "little fatty" (小胖）
Sounds like "Sean Penn", doesn't it? :-)

You said it meant fat or chubby, so it should probably be spelled xiao (3) pang (4). and yes, that would mean little fatty.

Shao means less. Pan means climb or coil. Its difficult to tell when you write it in pinyin without the accents though.
