My friend ran away from home recently, he has been living in a park next to a river and living off ducks that he catches, he cooks them over a camp fire, he thinks he is pretty ingenious, and is quite enjoying his time "living in the wild"

But my girlfriend says that ducks in the river are disease ridden, and he shouldnt be eating them. This could explain a few of the rashes he has got since moving down there. But I think duck would be fine, thai people eat duck, and so does my uncle, and hes fine.

So is duck alright to eat straight out the river? Is there any preparation he should be using?

you know wher factories and power plants pump thier safe water back into our rivers and streams!also cooking a bird riddled with merury will not cook down !
you can eat the ones that are far awy from place like these /migratory birds will look for secluded waters and are safe!point-use your head!

Your friend runs away from home, is living by a river, and eating ducks out of said river, and you are so concerned about his health that you post a question asking about the health concerns of eating said ducks. This has got to be a bullshit question, right?

Your girlfriend is right. They are disease ridden and I doubt he is capable of cleaning the ducks as well as they need to be. Aside from bacteria, there can be salmonella poison and a bunch of other kinds of poison.

Plus, what your friend is doing (killing ducks) is probably illegal.

Be a good friend and tell his parent(s) where he's at and let them come get him.

Yes it is fine. As long as he cooks it completely shouldn't be a problem. People hunt & eat ducks all the time. The rash could be developing from something else like poison ivy or infection of some sort. n

To tell you the truth, yeah. The ducks can contain dangeorous diseases like the bird flu or he should go to a hospital or go back home.

As long as he cooks the flesh until it is very done, he will be fine.

He should go home.
