my seven year old and I always do cheap stuff.. there is this interactive museum that she loves and is really cheap. We make cookies and supper. We go for walks to the ice cream shop. We make snow men and inside we make 'tents' with blankets and chairs. We also go swimming alot. We play alot of board games. We have treasure hunts as reward for a good attitude. We also have 'mailboxes' with our names on it. Mine on my bedroom door and her on hers. We leave each other mail alot. We paint cookies (the paint is egg yolk, a touch of water and food colouring)

Find a local newspaper or family magazine (I live in Orange County and there is a great free magazine called Parenting OC) to find things to do, such as going to a local museum or zoo. The library is great for ideas or just for reading/borrowing books. What does your son like to do? How about cooking at home or learning how to do magic tricks? Does he like to draw or put on plays? How about teaching him how to play chess or write a poem? Maybe visiting a fire station or going for a hike (if the weather's not too extreme) would be fun and cost nothing.

I don't know if they have it in your area, put ten pin bowling is good fun and rather inexpensive. You could also do an indoor picnic where your son gets to pick the menu. Or get a puzzle and build it together! Good luck! Enjoy the special time with your little one!

Flubber:
3 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp white glue
2 Tbsp Borax
Mix together water and glue (food Coloring can be added here) first then mix in borax. I fund a ziploc bag works best for the mixing.

go bowling, play hide and seek in a new place like the park, try the library. most libraries have free story time and the kids color and sometimes play games they love it when parents join in.

Check out your local children's museum. They are usually not too expensive and have loads of hands on activites. It's a blast!
