Everyone told me it was the best thing to do, and I know that, because I was not respected. However, the house is empty at night, it is scary and dark and lonely..how can I feel safe? I have friends, but I am talking about nights. I have a roommate, but she leaves on the weekends to be with her boyfriend, so I am alone in the house, we just broke up this last Thurs. Any advice appreciated

get a pet to keep you company. you'll sleep better at night too cuz you'll feel like the pet is watching over you.

I know exactly what you mean. I can remember every moment of what it was like when I went through that same thing a few years ago. It is so hard!!! The only thing that helps is time. It will take some time, but it will get better - I promise you that. But the important thing is that you be strong and do not go back with him. Try to keep busy. Is there a friend you can stay with over the weekends for a few weekends? Or, someone that will stay with you on the weekends? It will help. What I did, was I stayed the first 2 weekends at my friends house in Encinitas. We stayed up talking all night. We went to eat, you know stuff like that. Then I would get home, lay on my bed and cry. But believe me, that did help the time go by a lot faster and it did help me get stronger. Just give it time - hang in there. I wish you all the strength and happiness in your future! Bye...

Was your relationship an abusive one? If so, this would explain your fear of an empty, scary and lonely house and it will be a tough task to overcome those feelings and feel secure once again. You may need to talk things through with someone who is willing to listen and provide help.

On the other hand, breaking up is hard to do, particularly when there are so many emotions to deal with. The only remedy to get over those feelings of being alone is "time". Only time and how fast you choose to let go of the broken relationship will dictate when you get over those feelings. Once you feel comfortable in your "aloneness", you will have overcome that feeling of being alone. If you don't understand this now, you will down the road. I wish you the best!!! Good Luck!!!
