I have never heard of someone being mauled to death, but I did hear once on the news about a man who accidentally squirted his cat with the hose nozzle at the kitchen sink, the cat went crazy, attacked him and ruptured a major blood vessel, I think the jugular and the man was rushed to the hospital. He didn't die but probably would have without quick medical attention.

this depends
if the cat is really big or has a blood line of vicious cats that have mauled the cats 2 deth, then yes, there isa possibility.
the cat may be equiped with various extrmeme features like really big claws or bloodthirst or a really evil mind, or it may just be so big that it thinks that the person is prey
i mean, dogs have eaten babies and small chldren, and pugs have mauled owners 2 deth
so...a cat can 2

There was a case where a dog bit off a few of babys toes.

A local women in my town had a cat and it started bitting at her leg and scratching the heck out of her. The cat really tore up her leg.

Turns out the women had a tumor in her leg.

Wow, I don't know. I do know that a cat bite is one of the worse ones to get. Worse than a dog bit, cause of all the bacteria they harbor. I've seen some nasty infections from cat bites, almost never with dog bites.

I have heard of a cat smothering an infant. This due to the milk smell of the babies mouth and a warm body to lay on. At least warm for a while.

I am sure it wasn't by a single cat, if ever it happened. Unless it wasn't really a "house" cat.
