drinking sugar water certainly won't make you faster. a performance athlete shouldn't be drinking soft drinks on a regular basis

I don't know if sodas make you slower. But carbonated drinks give me gas. Just plain water is boring. Kellogg just came out with a protein water in flavors, which also has calcium. I really like it but it costs about $2 a bottle. They have to work on the price. Look in the flavored water section at the market. Propell is a sports drink lightly carbonated, tastes good but if your electrolytes are all ready in balance, your body just dumps it through the bowels so you seem to have diarrhea.

Depending on the type of runner you are, you need to get set to drinking lots of water. In college the coach told us to have a gallon of water a day before practice during cross country. I normally only drank half a gallon because I didn't want to be peeing all day long.
Everytime I ran when I drank soda I felt slower and I think it may be because you have all those carbohydrates in your system that will burn faster than the protein and make you crash.
I'd recommend you cut down on it until the weekend.
Plus soda makes you fat, and a fat track runner is a slow one.

Soda is one of the worst thing you can drink it may give you a quick energy boost but after about 20 min you will be even more tired then before. If you want allot of energy place a 64oz bottle water next to your bed and drink it thorough the night .

sodas contain caffeine right? then its a stimulant, it will make you faster not slower.. but, on the other hand, caffeine also has a diuretic effect which will make you pee more.. if you're into sports, i think you should drink gatorade instead, it will replace the water and electrolytes lost in your body when you sweat during sports...

Pop is full of empty calories. You may be addicted to it, but it does NOTHING for your body. Diet pop is worse. They add chemicals to that. If you must really drink soda, go for the regular stuff. The diet crap is crap. Full of chemicals that could potentially harm your body. If you must have some, have only one.

Quite the opposite--it makes you faster. All that carbonation increases the gas in your system, making your body lighter.
