This site has made me really worried! Especially about the state of affairs in America! It seems to me that religion is simply seeding hatred and ignorance and xenophobia.

I'm a Catholic, yet I have no problem being open minded and entertaining all different beliefs.
Just because they are different does not mean that they are wrong!

In fact, the Christian God is the same God as the Old Testement Jewish God, and Allah, the Islamic God, is the same God again...

Why do people concentrate on the differences instead of embracing the similarities of the docterines of different religions?!

The main teaching of nearly every religion is treat others as you would like them to treat you.

That is the important thing, no matter what religion you are, athiest or whatever.

Why? The phase "narrow-minded dogmatism" sums it up quite well.

A little more study on your part will reveal the vast differences in the worlds faiths. The God of the old and new testament is far different than the god of islam. How you treat your fellow man is important but is not the "most" important thing. Your relationship with God is paramount. You have a loveing relationship with God and how you treat others comes without effort. This is the problem. Our relationship with God is not how it should be. Accepting everyones religion would make religion useless.

No, just because you believe in one faith, any faith, does not mean that you have the right to discount any and all other faiths. I agree with you with your belief in the main teaching.

Whenever I am discussing religion and politics (they are both one and same), I always mention that no matter what faith or religion you are or believe in, what it comes down to is the basic truth that all these different faiths share. We deserve to be heard with understanding and open minds.

I believe the main beliefs are these: There is a supreme, higher being that we can pray to for peace and acceptance. It doesn't matter who you are, we all deserve the same basic human rights and equal respects. God/Allah/Yawweh is one and the same. All religions, when broken down, share the same core beliefs and truths. No one is higher or lower than you are. Equality shall bring peace, understanding and respect, not violence, war and disrespect.

Also, I would like to point out that some people will never answer the question properly and use excerpts from the "bible" to quote with, and their silly minds are closed to new thoughts and ideas. They are the ones who are and never can be tolerant and respectful to others, no matter what religion or fatih. This is so petty.

Very good point. When I was a Christian, I had no problem with accepting other religions or even saying that while I believed in Christianity, I also didn't think I right. It just happened to be what I thought was right. There's a strong possibility all religions are wrong and I never thought otherwise. That is part of the reason why I stopped practicing Christianity. Too much hypocrisay and no room or tolerance for the possibility of errors. I believe in God and that's it. Religion is too much drama for me personally.

It is not just about wheather God has the same origin in the three religions you metioned, it is that God is very different to each of the three you mentioned. In the Christian faith, God is triune and includes The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the Islamic faith, God is God and only Muhamed is his profit, meaniing that they don't subscribe to any other "version" of God. While the Jewish God has the same root as the Chrisitan God and Christians and Jews share the many of the same beliefs & values, the Jewish faith does not accept Jesus as God. It is not just who God is, it is also what the message of God in the various reigious traditions that makes them all very different.

Hi.

Well what does the Bible say??

(2 Peter 2:1) However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among YOU. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves.

(1 Timothy 4:1) However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons,

(Matthew 24:23-25) 23 “Then if anyone says to YOU, ‘Look! Here is the Christ,’ or, ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. 25 Look! I have forewarned YOU.

Not much room for "other teachings" ..... Either a person follows what the Bible says, or they don't... their choice. BUT remember, if we choose wrong.....we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Mike

Why do non secular human beings spend plenty time discounting the thought of non-believers? are not you doing precisely what your complaining approximately? If we take out the be conscious "faith" and alter it into ideals, human beings have a genuine to have faith there is no God and have faith in technology. you could desire to discover the respond from supplies you have faith, from you your coronary heart, for others technology or in spite of they suspect. replaced into this meant to be an unquestionably question or are you in simple terms venting?

It would be probably asking too much to expect major religions to accept other religions and deities. However, I find that there is very little tolerance for other beliefs (or non-beliefs). Religion, american-style is very intolerant and is mutually exclusive from all other beliefs. Furthermore, there seems to be very little respect for their fellow humans, since beliefs instill the thought that the belief in god is valued above the lives of other humans.

The golden rule is very good. However, I think that is asking too much. I would be very satisfied if all abided by the silver rule from Confucius (500 BC) : Do not do to others what you do not want done to you.

You're completely right, and it's a shame more people don't understand that. Faith can be a wonderful thing, but organized religion can be dangerous as it spreads hatred against all who are different.

EPHESIANS 4:14-15

14 that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Each man should live in his own way and that should be good enough for him.

Except for radical muslims, the problem these days is not religious people discounting other faiths. The problem is atheists discounting people of faith.

It used to be people would say stop pushing your religionon me. Now it seems, at least from my experience, like people have to say quit pushing your atheism on me.
