6.1 billion people, approximately. Of course, they live on the earth, not in it. The temperature is far too high to live there!

Edit: Okay, so my numbers are off. I'm going by what I've been told in school. Still, they live on the earth.

I've heard there are approx. 6 billion which is close to the number still alive . Sorry I don't recall the source.
