one study reports that the virus that causes shingles may be released into the air from shingles sores. you may be able to prevent spreading the disease by covering the shingles sores with a type of dressing that absorbs fluids and protects the sore (hydrocolloid dressing, such as DuoDerm).4 what does that mean exactly and where can i buy it? thanks

Yes, that is true. My daughter had shingles and the doctor said she was not contagious ONLY if she covered it well. I did get it from her very easily as I helped her to cover it. Luckily, I used the cream the doctor gave me for her and was able to control it quickly. It is very, very painful nerve pain. I am so sorry your husband has it.
You can buy dressings anywhere. Go to the pharmacy and tell them what you need.

If you get to a doctor or hospital within the first 24-48 hrs they will give him antibiotics to treat the very painful shingles. If you wait too long....it will have to heal on it's own which could take some time. The doctor can tell you how to keep it from spreading etc*

Just thought I'd let you know that I read in a medical column (Dr. Gott, I think) that someone used Vick's on shingles. Kind of as a desperation move, really. But he claimed it worked. It certainly couldn't hurt. As far as the virus, it's chickenpox (varicella). It isn't a specific "shingles" virus. The only people who should be concerned are those who haven't had chickenpox or were never vaccinated. Anyone who's had chickenpox can get shingles since it's a reactivation of the dormant virus. You can't "catch" shingles unless you never had chickenpox or the vaccine, and then what you catch is chickenpox.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/HERPEScure2015tTrR

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

I work in a hospital and we use duoderm on our patients skin in a variety of cases but I have not heard of it being used on the shingles sores. Here is a site, it is very expensive and you should not remove it for bathing. Also be careful when putting it on, as it should be put on smoothly with no kinks. http://www.healthproductsforyou.us/product_details.aspx?pid=89&OVRAW=duoderm&OVKEY=duoderm&OVMTC=standard
In the hospital setting we use tegaderm on the shingle sores. Why? It is a transparent dressing and it allows us to see the site where the shingles are. Here is another link. http://www.vitalitymedical.com/VitalityMedical.storefront/EN/catalog/188

Also, if there are any people in your household who haven't had chicken pox or the vaccine they should not be in contact with your husband. Especially babies and pregnant women. I advise you to take your husband to a doctor, it can be very painful for him, this condition. And a hydrocolloid dressing keeps the skin intact, moist and protects it.
