Cool Patients in the Mental Hospital?

Did you meet anyone interesting in the hospital?

I became very close to 3 people I met when I was in a psych clinic for severe depression. All of us were going through the same things in life, all of us wanted it to end. We supported each other and even though we were told we couldn't... we swapped addresses and phone numbers and still talk on a regular basis and help keep each other in check. It was scary going in at first where they lock you in and you don't know anyone. But group therapy sessions help break that down, you get to know people and you end up helping each other as well.

I've never been admitted to a mental hospital but I work with severely mentally ill people who have come out of a mental hospital. They are interesting and cool in their own ways. Very difficult to deal with at times...I wouldn't say really interesting or cool in a satisfying way...maybe more like, oh wow the mind can do this?!?!

There can be cool people in a mental hospital - after all, I've been in one. *smile* However, my psychiatrist said it best when she said, "the hospital is not the best place to make friends". She actively discouraged us from exchanging phone numbers, etc.

I would really encourage you to surround yourself with a *stable* support system. If you have a need to hear stories from other people who are mentally ill - join a structured support group or group therapy.

Yes, a few hot chicks. They had a rule where your not s'posed to hug fellow patients or even touch them for that matter. But I hugged a couple. I wish I could I still talk to them but never kept in touch. Oh well. But obviously it's not the ideal place to meet girls or anyone.

no, there are no cool or interesting people in a mental hospital.
it is a horrifying experience.... never feeling safe.
