prime it dark gray with a gripper primer or shellac primer ask them to tint the primer at depot or the paint store i use and sell glidden dulux paints so im biased but putting one coat of any black over pink wont cover so prime then paint and if its in a lot of use use a satin enamel in latex semi glosses can crackle on furnature and later flat will were but satin is a softer cating and can take some use and banging ,, and stains would have to be on sanded stripped wood

Black Stain or Black Paint or Black Lacquer

Either of those are fine.

you should by stripping off the old paint. then iuse trem clat paint. it seems to cover well and holds it,s color a long time. but preporation is the differance between doing an average job and a great job. take your time and you will proud of the jod you have accomplished good luck and good refinishing. It is up to you. Use a good interior paint. If you are expecting heavy use age, I would use a good exterior latex paint. Exterior can ALWAYS be used on the interior for added protection, but interior cannot be used on the exterior.

I would think a water based acrylic...in a gloss if you want it shiny, or a matte finish if want just plain black Try Home Depot or Lowes
