Sell the car, pay off the loan and never co-sign again.

That is the problem with co-signing. You should only do it if you trust the other person.

You can not remove your name from the loan unless the person who "says" they're paying agrees to apply for the loan by themselves.

You signed a paper saying you'd pay if something went wrong, and that's all the bank cares about. Obviously you're asking this question here because something has gone wrong. What did the letter from the bank say?

The way to do that, is to pay the loan off. The loan company didn't trust the person you signed for either. Since the person you signed for isn't paying, they will start billing you for the payment, and you'll be responsible to pay. It's very risky cosigning for a loan because you never know what can happen.

there's no way you can get your name off it without both of you,and the bank agreeing to do this, most banks have a policy of one year, after that you can have your name removed from it,that's why they had you co-sign it,in case they didn't pay,so you can either take the car ,or pay the payments, its your credit riding also on this one, good luck,i hope this help,s.

You're stuck until the debt is paid off, friend. Most of us learn this lesson the hard way.

Talk to the place where the loan has been taken from and talk to them.
