If so, how? It seems like calling the police hasn't worked for many people.

I've been dealing with mine for years and nothing has helped. The bass gets so loud sometimes that it causes my walls to vibrate and I could even hear it from the living room (the room that's farthest from them). I can't get others in my apartment to complain because I don't think it affects them as much, if at all.

My dad went to complain a long time ago but it obviously didn't do anything. Besides, I wouldn't want to deal with the discomfort of bumping into them afterwards. It already feels awkward enough knowing that we secretly don't like each other.

What drives me even crazier is that they have the nerve to kick our wall when our dog barks. I can't believe that because:

1. They continue with THEIR music being fully aware that it bothers us (their inconsideration amazes me).

2. Their problem is easy to control. A dog's barking isn't.

3. We actually MAKE an effort to stop our dog's barking.

I just can't believe they feel like they have a right to complain when they don't do a thing about their own noise.

But anyway, has anyone else had to deal with inconsiderate neighbors like mine? Did they ever stop? If not, how are you dealing with it now?

I've tried the cops. About five times, maybe more. Obviously it didn't do anything. They usually just come and leave since my neighbors have it off by the time they come. I think the police once said something to them because they turned it off and kicked our wall. Then they continued to play it on another day.

Tried the landlord. I think he said something to them once but I guess they don't care. I don't think they'll get kicked out over it.

if you live in an apartment then I would just call the tenant...most leases have something against being loud and ask that they not say who complained....if they don't do anything about it then you could try calling the police, or you could say you will control your dog if they control their music

If it's an apartment complex call the leasing company. If it's a private landlord keep calling him. Call him while the music is on and hold the phone out so he can actually hear it. Call the police all the time. Who cares if they kick your wall? That's just idiotic behavior. As long as they don't harm you guys, it will be fine.

Have you tried leaving a note taped to their door. Tell them the music is truly disturbing you and that it vibrates your walls. It's worth a try. And then if they try to get even louder to retaliate, then you can call the cops as soon as the music goes on and hopefully the police will get there in time.

I did have this happen to me once. But it was at 3am! And it was right next to my 1 year olds room. I wanted to kill them. I talked the other neighbors and they heard it, too. I called the leasing office and it stopped. But I learned it was that my neighbor had his 15 year old brother staying with him for a few weeks and it was him and his friend making the noise.

In most cases, after a certain point at night, usually after 10 pm, you can call the cops and it is considered a violation of noise ordinance. Or calling the office or the landlord and requesting that they keep your name out, like the previous answer said, something should be done. With enough complaints most landlords will do something about it. If nothing changes, then just say "screw it" and let your dog go nuts with barking and mabey they will get the point, but I doubt it since you have been dealing with them for years and they are just inconsiderate losers.

Don't worry. You are not the only one who experience this terrible neighbor.
Mine is the same. We now secretly dislike each other actually. It was all my fault to give my credence and confidence to them in the first place. I even share the internet connection with them but they didn't pay for 2 months yet. Stupidly I -still- let the internet being used by them. Stupid me. They really love to slam the door until all the walls really vibrate, throw objects, smash the door bell phone that against my wall rudely and talk out loud (they are black people). True. The first time I came to this apartment, they were really nice, kindhearted and so polite but since 2 weeks ago they changed become so rude and incredibly noisy for the unknown reasons.
I really have no rational idea whether if they did those rude things to piss me off, or they have issues among them, or they are simply unhappy people. Did I do something so terribly wrong to them until they changed like that? I never did those rude things like they do.
But that's a real life I guess. We really cannot expect people be nice or kind to us. Unhappy people really like it when everyone else unhappy. They would do anything - anything - possible to make others feel their vibe of misery and unhappiness (consciously or unconsciously). Because misery loves company.

That is a difficult and vexing situation that many people have a problem with|

We have to know that when people make all the disturbance that they want and are deaf to your complaints, yet rag on you for the littlest thing, they have no concern about justice at all.

They use the "ethics" principle as nothing but a stick to beat people up with - that is what they do as they lay a guilt trip on you while getting away with murder themselves|

You want to stop loud music completely?

Do you have access to the circuit breaker in the building?

That is how I have stopped loud music in the dead of the night in the past|

Anyway, another thing you can do is play loud music yourself, but much louder|

Get some really raunchy punk rock CDs, (like the one with the lyrics: "Hemingway hated disco music"), rent a stereo that has a 2000 watt output, and then crank it up|

Do this every time they play *their* music|

No one can complain because if they are ignoring your complaints about their music they have no right to complain about yours|

There are many creative ways you can deal with things like this that obnoxious neighbors do|

The landlord or owner has the responsibility to make sure things are running smoothly at the residences. You have to keep calling them to get things done. Ask if they will install acoustic protection for your apartment. It just gets old calling the police every time the idiot gets too loud. You could call the city prosecutor and ask what can be done about a persistent offender. My experience with one person caused me to move away. They were so obnoxious. I have my own home now and it is heaven. No more jerks to put up with. Best of luck to you!!

There's not much you can do. Police lack the will to get involved, for them it's a no-win situation. Depending on where you live, local councils/government sometimes will have environmental officers who may be able to prosecute for noise pollution, but don't count on it.

So...

You'll never make them stop.

So...

Get even.

Stop complaining, it won't help and only draws attention to you. Endure for the noise for, say, six months and then wait until they're out, stick their own hosepipe under the door and turn on the tap.

Here in New York, calling the police works. You can call the cops on a noise complaint, and if the person doesn't listen to the cops, you can start a court action against them and get an injunction ordering them to stop disturbing you.

Apparently they don't do that where you live .. too bad.

But, you still might be able to file a court action on your own - just make sure to record their exessive noise so you can use it as evidence in court.

Find out what your local sounds ordinances are for your area. Document all times/dates when the disturbances happen.

You can do something about this, but be tactful. Don't kick the wall to get back at them. This just gives them ammunition against your case.

My Advice...people suck and no one will do anything.....just move to a new place, and do some research. Or, no matter how affraid you are....walk to that persons apartment and kindly ask them. sometimes if you do that first instead of being a typical loser calling the cops, they will have more respect for you. They also may not. Its worth a try. good luck.
