Is a short haircut better than the long one? which one do you prefer?

Maltese are not supposed to be cut short. This can damage the fur growth. The main cut for a puppy, is considered a short puppy cut with a round face. As they age, the body should be left longer, brushed thoroughly and trimmed up as necessary. Short round faces, I think, are fine. But when you start cutting them too close they look rather silly. Their pads should be shaved, around the paws trimmed neat and feathered tails. I think this "natural" cut on them is adorable. When you start cutting it too short or making the face all shaved-well, you might as well have gotten a poodle!! But this is my opinion, thanks for asking.

Long hair looks better on them, but it is hard to maintain.
If you have the time to devote to them, than you will enjoy the
look of a maltese. But I have three maltese and only one has
long hair. I cut the other ones hair shorter because it is just
easier to manage, but you can get different styles, and for me,
I think it's alot easier to bathe them and do all the grooming
when the hair is short. I think it all depends on how much time
you have to groom them. Also when it rains outside, their
hair is such a mess, so I do have rain coats for them, but
short hair is easy to manage.

I keep my Maltese's hair short....longer in the winter and puppy cut in the spring and summer. It is easier to keep clean and to comb and she seems to like it. Long Hair is very difficult to maintain and it is expensive to keep giving the dog so many hair cuts. Most people who have Maltese keep the hair on the short side. Long hair is for show dogs and requires lots of care.

I love the look of the longer cut and during winter although it has a tendency to manage to collect a lot of water & mud during play time, if the dog is kept well groomed it is the far better option for the colder months. Where as during the hot summer months I would suggest a clip off. Although the dogs can look rather ungainly they are much better prepared for very hot weather.

All dogs are cute if they are your own. And the way they look is less of an issue than their comfort, no matter what their hair style you will no doubt love it for just being itself.

I love the well groomed long haired Maltese. But as a groomer, I can tell you that they usually have fine hair and it tangles easily. If you have a hectic schedule keeping it in a shorter cut would make for easier care. If you have time to dote on your baby, then by all means, let it grow out and see how you feel about brushing and combing it daily. I would also use a leave on cream rinse so you aren't pulling hair out and aggravating your pooch.

A short one is easier to take care of but if u have the money and time to keep them long do that. personally i like a short hair cut i looks better and a long hair cut you have to brush it every day or more than once a day.

suitable subject is to ask your groomer. Take your canine to them and have them instruct you what form of cut back will look suitable. As a expert, he/she could have wisdom of each and every of the cuts for all breeds of canine and might propose you which will look the suitable on your Maltese.
