Well, it's been over two decades since I left home, so that doesn't qualify as 'these days', but...I moved out at 17, with parental permission, to start college. I was ready to move out (and I needed to, because I needed to go to school) but it wasn’t long before I was thinking, “It sure would be nice if I still lived at home, because then I wouldn’t have to pay all these bills.”
I think most kids still move out at 18 or shortly thereafter, but some (and especially boys, it seems), stay longer. Often it’s a case of: they don't have to pay bills, they get their laundry done, they get their meals cooked, etc...so, why leave?

I left at 19 because I go to school in another province, my sister left at 16 - I guess it's what ever works for each person.

I just moved out and I'm19. I'd say it all depends. like if someones going to college they might have to live in the dorms. most kids i know moved out right after high school.
