We're having our daughters' birthday parties together next month because their birthdays are a week a part (the day not the year). Well, I was thinking about maybe showing a video slide-show of each of them. The slide shows wouldn't be any more than 5 minutes long and there will be two, one for each daughter. Does this sound tacky at all? Our girls will only be 2 and three and the people here will be friends and family. What do you think?

Yes paula, I have 2 daughters. They were born exactly 51 weeks apart. My oldest' birthday is 7 days after my youngest (the day not the year obviously). Both my girls always get their own cake with the design of their choice. They both get the equal amount of gifts and the same types of gifts. If my oldest gets two outfits, my youngest gets two outfits

I think that would be great especially for the people who have watched your children grow into the wonderful little girls they are today! I might steal that idea when my son gets a little older. The school my cousin went to actually sets up slide shows and posters with all their pictures [naked ones and all] for their graduation parties. Sounds like a cute idea to me.
Don't worry about all of that "fair" junk. My sister and I were born a year and twenty-four days apart. We shared our birthday party from the time we were tiny. We had the same cake and we had the same friends so the gifts were always even. Sometimes we got presents to share but we never minded. I'd teach them now that they have to share and compromise. We never argued over our birthday celebration and actually had fun helping out with it when we got older.

I think it's sweet.
Be sure to add music to the slide show to keep out the silence, perhaps add songs that are from each child's special year or match the photos, do a mix of songs, have chip and dips, so people can move about and not be "seated" and "expected" to sit thru it.
I have seen it where they just have the slide show in the background ongoing with music throughout the party, people can sit and watch as they wish or ewh and ahhhhhhh at their favorite photos, more casual, without the confinment of "it's slide show time, gather round".
Have fun, good friends, finger foods, music, don't forget the music. Nothing is more stale than a party with no background music to set the tone. ;)

If the slide shows would be running on a constant loop on a desk somewhere then I don't think it's tacky. If you're going to make everyone sit through 10 minutes of pictures then it might be a little overboard.

I think it is a great idea! It lets friends and family who haven't been around all the time see how they've grown. And a 2 and 3? The kids arent vbig enough to be going "Moooommm" and getting embarassed! Enjoy showing off your bundles of joys while you can!!

I think it's a great idea. Your family and friends will love the videos and your daughters will feel like stars for the day.

I made a video for my granddaughters 1st birthday. Everyone loved it and asked for copies. My daughter was graduating from high school a few months later and wanted a video like her nieces. They are great and do go over well.

At 2 and 3 there's no chance of them being embarassed. So no worries there. As for having people watch 10 minutes of videos / slideshow? I think it would be nice. Try to keep it cute, light, and funny.. and not to make your guests yawn. :-) But that's not very long, so go ahead, knock yourself out. Should go over just fine.

instead of going through all that expense and trouble, why not leave their baby books out? that way ppl can browse through them at their leisure, and if they'd rather see one of ur daughters vs the other they can. save the slideshow for their wedding receptions. or...here's another idea. if one of ur daughters is more popular than the other, put that girl on for display of a slide show. also, if your friends have little boys their ages, put a bid up on their dowry, so that you can get prospective husbands for them! that would be REALLY exciting!

Your question is confusing, do you have 2 daughters that have close birthdays or your daughter and someone else's daughter are combining parties because their birthdays are close together?
Either way, make sure both girls have equal amounts of gifts and attention - 2 and 3 year olds are very keen on wanting what he/she DIDN'T get.

If the guests are all friends and family (who probably love them *almost* as much as you do!), then I think it's a fantastic idea! It sounds like a loving way to show your children from your point-of-view, and the girls will be so pleased to be the stars of the show!
