Caffeine definitely dehydrates a person, but carbonation limits your oxygen intake? What?????!!!!!! What kind of poppycock is this? Caffeine is a diuretic, more specifically, a xanthine, which is a type of diuretic. Diuretics accelerate the rate at which the kidneys filter fluids in the body, ultimately making you urinate more often. Through more frequent urination, you lose body fluids along with the tainted water you just drank. Try something with electrolytes, or preferably, plain water.

I don't have an answer to your question but I can tell you this-- do not drink cold water too fast if you are dehydrated. Instead drink sometihng like gatorade that has electrolytes in it. Pure water can effect cellular damage in a dehydrated person. The salts and sugars in sports drinks prevents your bodily cells from taking in too much water too fast.

The water in pop is combined with things like high frutose corn syrup. That means it is less available to your body. It also raises blood glucose which contributes to overheating. Other ingredients like caffine may also cause your body problems.

Pop is better than no fluid but plain water or Gatorade or other sports electrolite beverage is better.
