I'm 17 and about to graduate high school , but my marks have gotten so bad that I have little chance of getting into university, or succeeding if I make it there. How do I get her to help me get meds or help of some kind? I've tried a lot of alternate treatments on my own, changed my diet and everythign but nothign has worked. I'm starting to get depressed because my future is going to the dogs and im doing my best but nothing is working, and my doctor won't even help me. I've even had thoughts of suicide figuring it will be easier to end it now rather then be stuck working a minimum wage job the rest of my life. I desperately need advice! Please help me!

* I live in a very small town and it is not easy to just go find another doctor or psychiatrist. Im still going back to school for one more year to take more courses because i'm not ready to leave school just yet.

Find a doctor that will help you. It is your doctor's responsiblity as a physcian to give you the best possible care she can provide. If she is unwillingly to help you, then she needs to refer you to someone specializing in your disabiltiy. If she refuses to refer you report her to the state licensing board. She took a hippocratic oath never to do harm. By not helping you she is breaking that oath. My daughter has ADHD and if I hadn't forced the pediatrician to have her referred to a specialist she never would have been treated. My daughter is off the charts intelligent, but has the attention span of a gnat. Because she is so smart, she was doing okay in her classes, but no one could keep her on task.
When she takes her medicine every day she is so articulate and well spoken and completes every task assigned to her. When she hhasn't had her meds she can't concentrate and she talks incessantly about absolutely nothing at all. Her thought processes are jumbled and her sentences jump from one subject to the next without any cohesion. Trust your instincts. Get the help you need. Don't let anyone talk you at of it. Good Luck.

Go to a different doctor. Write down everything you have tried and the results you had. This will show the doctor what different things you have tried so the two of you won't need to duplicate your efforts so far. Also since your still in high school you should go see your guidance counselor about some different things you can do to make up for your grades.

Wow! You are obviously desperate for some relief. And I'm sorry that your current dr is not listening to how much difficulty that you are having. Please know that there are other doctors who are much more caring and vigilant about patient care.

Please, please do Not give up! There are quite a few treatments available for those with attention deficit disorder. Perhaps you can talk with your parents about getting a different doctor, preferably a psychiatrist (as opposed to a family dr) who treats patients with the disorder on a fairly regular basis. There may also be support group nearby for those with ADD. There are many successful people with ADD so please don't fret that you will always have this much trouble focusing and such. If you are seriously considering suicide, please do talk to your parents about it asap! Here is a helpline as well: 1-800-SUICIDE

Here is what you do find a good psychiatrist not a psychologist the first doctor will evaluate and he will treat you if you have this problem and if you do he will put you on meds because he is a medical doctor..a psychologist is not a medical doctor and cannot give meds do it kara

go find another doctor who will give you a second opinion. iyou might have senoritis.....its a high school term if your a senior and excited about leaving high school behind. this may or may not be the reasoning behind your grades. f you worry about going to a 4 yr. college with grades that aren't too great, check out a community college. there you'll be able to take your core classes and when you do transfer to a 4 yr. college, you'll be able to take more courses of your intended major.
