My husband was born in Canada, lived there for the first 5 months of his life and is a permanent resident of he US also. You can stay forever. You are a permanent resident. You just need to renew your green card every 10 years. Start about 8 months before it expires and you will have it in time. You can do this through any INS office.

it is permanent... just keep renewing your premanent residency card every 10 years before it expires and abide the of residency, like not paricipating in illegal activity or staying out of the country without out permission etc... see the link

Until your Resident Visa expires your you apply for citizenship.

PERMANENT MEAN FOREVER. YOUR QUESTION IS MISSING SOMETHING I DON'T GET IT. IF YOUR A PERMANENT RESIDENT HOW CAN YOU LOSE YOUR RESIDENCY FOR STAYING IN THE U.S.?

I think its one year after your student VISA runs out, unless your employer will sponsor you.
