I have put a LOT of thought into this, and even though I am not at all religeous, I believe that god only allows conception for babies intended to be here. There is only a few days a month a woman can actually get pregnant, and even when conception occurs the biological processes necessary for a pregnancy to continue are astounding...I think if a woman gets pregnant, that the baby was meant to be.
I feel sorry for the women who get pregnant from rape, and I feel sorry for the young women who get pregnant while they are still children themselves through rape. But I don't believe two wrongs make a right....I don't think abortion is ever the answer...
However, having said that...I don't think abortion should be illegal either, because what goes on between a woman and her doctor should not be legislated by the government...if a woman wants an abortion, she shouldn't have to do it with clotheshangers and clorox bleach. I think she will answer for it later....but I am not going to say that she can't get an abortion if she feels she needs one. I think its murder but I don't want to live in a country with morality police, either.

I would never under any circumstances get an abortion. Even if it was rape, even if it was a high risk pregnancy, no matter what. That is still killing a baby. I can't see how I could ever choose to end my child's life, especially how much I want to have a baby. I guess that is probably one reason why it hurts me so much when I hear of people having abortions. There are millions of people like me who can't have children, who have been trying for years like me, and then there comes someone who gets pregnant and doesn't even want the baby. It hurts more than almost anything to see someone having what you want then destroying it. I am not trying to hurt anyone or judge anyone who has already had an abortion or whatever, but things happen for a reason. I have alot of respect for people who will go through an entire unwanted pregnancy and either keep the baby and be the best possible for parent, or realize that they can't do that and give the baby up for adoption. The child was to be brought into the world to fulfill the master plan, you shouldn't kill him just because a baby doesn't fit into your plan.

This is why there needs to be a choice. Reading through the answers, I have to say I respect everyone who says they would keep the baby if they were raped. I think it would take a very strong individual to do that. However, not everyone woman has that strength, nor do they have a support group. Also, what happens if the rapist is a family member? That only adds to the trauma. Just because you feel you are strong enough to go through the pregnancy doesn't mean you get to make that choice for anyone else.

I don't particularly like abortion either, and would probably never choose it for myself. But there needs to be a choice. The mother's physical and emotional health needs to be considered, too.

Yes I would. I belive that Life is given to us. And YES even in this horrible situation I would still choose to allow this person to lives, as I have been given the same gift. This is how I see it. This child has a future and a chance to be someone. And We have absolutely no right in my opinion to take that away. If this ever happened to me I would choose to look beyond whats going to happen to "me" and what has happend to me ....and I would consider the person growing inside of me....One of the best gifts that can come from the situation could be a baby..plus abortion is just not safe for you..and that living person with a heart beat feels pain..imagine how that baby would feel knowing that even in your situation you chose to give them the best gift of all..LIFE!..Im only fifteen years old...but i still have really strong beliefs against the procedure..I think that soo many people are very unedgucated on the subject...

I'm not against abortion to begin with. I'm pro-choice. It is highly unlikely I would have an abortion within the bounds of a relationship, even if I wasn't ready to have the child (like in my life right now). However, I would be greatly inclined to abort a child that came as the result of rape. Some people probably think that is wrong, but I would not be able to bear 9 months and giving birth to a child fathered by a man such as a rapist.

I have thought about this actually.
I read the story of a nun who was raped and kept her baby as a gift from God. It was such a beautiful story of faith and making something incredible out of such horror. If such a thing ever happened to me, I would have the baby-- but not sure if I would raise it or give it up for adoption. That part would depend on where my life was at that time. I have three children now and have many health problems, so I might not be able to raise a baby.

Say just because I was raped and I got pregnant I would not give it up or kill it,the baby didn't ask to be concieved at that time.Besides there are alot of peolpe out there that can't have children and would give the child a very good home.

I will go for an abortion, it’s a sin but I will not have a child that will grow up as “screwed up”, raising this child will be my duty but the people around him will have their judgments that could tear him down. The child has nothing to do with what happened to me if I went through this kind of situation, I was raped then I have to have raise a child this burden I can’t carry on my shoulders and seeing this child be very hard for me to move on. If I could go through this situation I’ll be crazy(honetly), I have to save my self first before this kid, and if I can’t stand on my own two feet then who will help this kid? Nobody! I’d rather save one of us rather we both lose our sanity and still end up as nothing.

I would still feel that it would not be okay to end my baby's life. That baby would be my flesh and blood too. If it was going to be hard to raise him/her than I would do an adoption. Having an abortion would not change the fact that I was raped.

Of course. It’s never acceptable to kill an innocent human being. Would you kill a one-year-old because her father was a rapist? If not, why is the child in the womb fair game? Is she less worthy of life than the rest of us because of the circumstances of her conception? Should children be punished with violent death for the crime of their fathers?

Rape is bad; murder is worse. Studies have shown that the majority of women who abort a child conceived in rape regret it, while none of the mothers who choose to give birth do. For more on this topic, including personal stories from women who conceived children in rape, see:
