I see this quiet guy in class. I don't know him or anything, but I just think he has a unique style. i am a shy and really quiet person. (this is a university class). however, i do not even sit next to him. how do i start a conversation with him? should i ask him advice on how to study for the class?
sometimes, it's kinda weird to talk to someone (a classmate), maybe that person think it's kinda creepy. So... what should I do? How do I know if this person has a girlfriend or not?( because i see him text messages a lot)

Really easy! Get up a little bit of courage and say "HI"......enjoy the aukward silence, as uncomfortable as it may be........all conversations need a starting place, and hello will crack the ice.....not break it........The next thing you need to say immediately after "hi" is "i'm *insert your name*, what's yours?"
conversations have a way of happening or not happening.....he will not see you if you don't say anything.

sit next to him, try to make eye contact, and try to talk about the class, its better if he takes more of the initiative but try to get him to do something with u outside of class even if its just studying or somehitng
