I found this article online. Might be helpful.
I just lost my cat Sophie to CRF and I wish I could have done more to help her. Don't give up on your little guy, you'll know when it's time, but before then, help him fight a good fight.
Good Luck!!

I have no idea how you can prolong your cat's life with homeopathic medicines, his life is short you know that already, and if he is happy with his situation as it is with you now, then keep up what you are doing, you do realize that when kidney failure does happen it will happen quickly and he will feel awful sick and will need to be euthanized. I see this every day I work in a vets office as a vet tech and I just lost my little dog a few months ago. It is a horrible thing to see happen, I wish you the best and maybe he will come through this, but be prepared for the worse and it will happen suddenly. god bless

I feel you are taking the right route with the moist canned food. I hope you will use a high quality protein food for him and not grocery store stuff with by-product meat. Wellness and Natural Balance are good choices.
My older cat was diagnosed with kidney problems when she was around 18. She ate a raw meat, home-prepared diet which was of course very high in moisture. Her veterinarian was versed in acupuncture and Chinese medicine and she had an herbal mixture from the vet that she ate twice a day in her meat. We used some acupuncture for her arthritis which didn't help that much so I was interested to read that someone had success with that and kidney problems.
My cat was 22 and 1/2 when her kidneys finally got the better of her. I hope your cat can do as well. I would urge you to find a veterinarian who is versed in the acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
Cameo was given fluids at the vet's before a surgery and when she had her teeth cleaned (very important so that bacteria do not invade the kidneys to damage them further) and I never administered them at home. He should stay adequately hydrated by a moist diet.

Ask your vet about fluid treatment. I had a cat in kidney failure (started when he was 16, and he lived until 19). When he got really bad, I started giving him fluid treatments at home (lactated ringer solution given sub Q or under the skin) It extended his life by about 5 months.

You say she is feeling no pain at this time. Yes, there are homeopathic treatments for cats, but the vet also can give you some not so costly helps. There is special food and wafers they like. Watch him like a hawk, because when he starts hurting please have him put to sleep. I know that will be a hard thing to do, but you have got to think of their life.

Dont give up!!! My cat was diagnosed with this five years ago. The vet gave me 1000 liters of lactated ringers (a standard IV bag) with tubing and several large bore cathaters. I was told that for the rest of his life I would have to give him 100 liters via needle a day, between his shoulder blades. It was devastating and quite overwhelming. I couldnt do it longer than a month. He moaned and cried everytime which broke my heart. I decided to just love him and see what happens. I let him drink from the running faucet in my sink, he has always loved this. I had to stop giving him anything but hard food. I just loved him and .... He is happy and healthy. Five years ago I thought he was going to die. He looked like crap, cathartic and really unkept. Today he is his usual bossy self. Good luck.

im sorry you and your cat are going through this.. i had a cat that also was affected by the same problem..
great idea with the soup.. that is something i wish i had thought of.. we were actually giving mella, our cat, iv's every night.. the soup would have saved us all a lot of trouble
i wish i knew of some homeopathic treatments for you, but one thing our cat really enjoyed, and what i think helped her through everything, was getting this little stick on the window bird feeder.. i think it gave her a lot of enjoyment without her having to expend much energy
good luck, wish i couldve been more help

My cat has been in kidney failure for several years. I always think he will die at any moment, but he keeps on living. Make sure he gets plenty of water. I also feed him Hill's Prescription diet K/D.
