I am a vegetarian, and I think I might have anemia. I know anemia is a result of iron and b12 deficiency, but do I really need to go to the doctor. I take a daily multi vitamin that has iron and I can get b12 vitamins. Is there anything else I should know?

I would suggest you DO see your doctor to let him explain to you what kinds of vegetarian foods you need to eat to get all the nutrients/iron etc that your body needs. You may be lacking in something very important that you can eat and not even realize it. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health. Anemia (low iron and b12) can cause alot of problems with other things in your body. I was anemic and almost died. My b12 level was only at 32...apparently it should be at 300-400 level...I was very tired all the time, just thought it was because I was so busy...but NO* my iron and b12 were quite low as well as a few other things in my blood. I could have died...So , My advice to you is to go visit your doc, let him/her do some blood work to know exactly how low your iron or b12 is etc..and you can take it from there. Build your body back up to being healthy again before you end up in hospital. GOODLUCK*

any female who still has a period can become anemic from the blood loss. follow up with a doctor for blood work.
in the meantime, increase the amount of dark, leafy green vegs in your diet. you can ask the pharmacist about a multi-vitamin with extra iron, too.

Liver is a great source of iron, it's a proven fact. Your leafy diet can't compensate for the nourishment of regular meals.
