I had an IUD put in me in May of last year. I had experienced some minor pains in October, so I went back to see the doctor who had put it in. He got samples and ran all sorts of tests, but he never really told me anything, except that the IUD still seemed like it was in place and told me to take tylenol or whatever for the pain. Well, about a month ago, I started getting a lot of pains in my stomach and inner sides and my lower back. Then a week after that, I started getting sick to my stomach. The pains have been almost too much to handle. I thought maybe I was just catching the flu or whatever it was that was going around (a lot of people were getting sick). But then it just didn't go away...

So I called to make an appointment and went in. They ran all sorts of tests, and they told me that when I went in in October, the doctor (he's retired now) had made notes saying he'd found some contamination. But he never mentioned any of this to me. He just said I had another appointment in May to do the 1-year check-up. So when they did the tests the other day, they found that I now have Pelvic Inflamatory Disease (PID). The pains I have are like labor pains. I can't believe the doctor didn't tell me any of this. We could have done something about it a lot sooner. So my question is, does this happen often? Are people usually left out in the cold like this, only to find out something's wrong with them that could have been prevented? I hope not. I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Just a short suggestion. When you PAY a doctor for a visit and he doesn't explain things to you, YOU ask questions and a lot of them until he answers you. You are paying for his time and you deserve answers. Too often doctors only see $ signs and forget about the REAL reason he/she is there. Don't be afraid to show irritation when a doctor is acting smug, I've had to buck a few in my life time and when I did they deserved it. They may have a lot of training but the pants come on, in the morning, just like mine do. I buy his services and I expect results. Don't take any guff from them. Good luck. Pops

yes. This often happen when u had and IUD. The most probably causes for pain is misplacement of the device from the uterus. It is very important to take and x-ray to see whether the IUD is placed correctly. If someone have a pain radiating to the stomach, the device must already not in it real place.

Infection is the seconf thing that usually happen. If you have an infection, usually it accompany by vaginal discharge, pain and fever.

From your symptoms, i think the IUD was moving to the other place and it doesn't look like an infections.

It's not good for all that to be going on without going back to the doctor. Something has to be wrong. If it's coming from the IUD, maybe you shouldn't keep it. Can you use another method?

the iud could be implanting in the side of your uterus. get a sono from your dr to rule that out first.
and don't let anyone tell you that you got PID from an std! not true...
