Fasting is just another way to pray. You honor God by giving up something you really like. Lots of people give up food, but I gave up certain shows like South Park, Family Guy, etc. Me and my friends have notice a big change in me. One habit down, 117 more to go.

I've done all sorts of fasting and abstinance. I've given up meat, given up sweets, given up carbs... I've also done strict fasts and simply eating less for a day. I've done juice fasts. I've tried all of the different fasting methods recommended by several religions. The bottom line is this: by fasting and cleansing the body, you fill your soul. Simply forgetting to eat is not fasting. In order to fast, you have to have a spiritual reason behind it. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting for many Christians. When I fast on that day, I always make it a point to pray during the times that I would normally be eating. This leads to almost two hours more prayer and scripture study than the average day. It's good to fast once in awhile, but don't go overboard!

I have a hard time fasting but once I did it for 4 days. No food at all. By the time I was done I was crying.

I've gone on fasts just to cleanse my inner self, and true to that theory, I did manage to purge some really awful stuff.

I've gone on "give up that nasty habit" fasts, and asked my guardian angel for help, and I actually was helped from that particular bad habit, and had no temptations for it for more than 10 years.

I've gone on prayer fasts and "railed" heaven, and gotten my own way. But only because God was tired of hearing from me. Really, came very closer to God, and I think he likes me now...

However, I recommend that you never ask God a stupid question.
