The answers to this question so far don't reflect current practice within the credit card industry. (I know because I asked several months ago about something similar, and I called up the bank to find my answer.) Basically, it works like this now: If you have possession of the card, you can charge whatever you want to it. The card-holder is considered liable for all charges on their card if they have authorized you to use the card either by handing it to you or by putting your name on the account.

I don't have any idea why its done this way as it seems to me that the credit card companies are just begging for trouble by doing it this way. :-(

Legally no your not supposed to use you dads card, because it's you dads. But if you have permission from your dad, take the risk. Hell it happens all the time, I wouldn't go through the hassle. I would get the cash and not leave anything for chance.

you can sometime unless they ask for ID> if they dont then jus enter your pin number or sometimes they will just ringit as credit without askin you and at certain stores you would have to sign his name but some stores dont require a signature. its best to get your own or get your name on his too. you two should go to the bank together a nd get it worked out
