if so what and how did it work out for you?

I've done a few of them. For classes where I was good at the subject to begin with they worked out great. But I wouldn't really recommend doing it for a class you know you'll have trouble with.

I've always gotten good grades in them. It's true that you have to be disciplined though- you gotta check the website daily so you don't miss anything- then just show up on campus to take the tests. I like it cuz you don't have to be stuck in traffic, and you go at your own speed. A lot of times I don't think the teachers in actual classrooms help me that much anyway, they just go off PowerPoint outlines, which is something I can do myself. And no class, yipee!
